Akpebi is a Nigerian professional footballer who has played for various clubs in Nigeria and abroad. He retired from the Nigerian Super League due to injury.
He was born on January 29, 1986, in Abeokuta, Ogun State. His father is a former captain of the Nigeria national team, while his mother is a teacher. He started playing football at the age of six.
In 2005, he joined the Lagos United FC youth academy, where he played for several years before moving to the Nigeria National Team Academy in 2007. He made his debut for Nigeria in a friendly match against Ghana in June 2007, scoring a goal in the process.
After a brief stint with the club, Akpebi moved to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) in 2009. However, he struggled to make a name for himself in the league and eventually left the club.
In 2011, he joined the Nigeria Premier League side, FC Zenith, as a free agent. He quickly established himself as one of the most promising young players in the country and helped the team win the Nigerian Super Cup in 2012.
However, in February 2014, Akpebi sustained an injury that ruled him out of the rest of the season. He returned to the field in October 2014 but still wasn't able to return to full fitness.
Despite his struggles, Akpebi continued to impress with his performances and was rewarded by joining the Nigeria national team in 2016. He scored two goals in three matches for the under-23s and made his senior debut for the national team in March 2017.
Injuries have always been part of the game and it seems that Akpebi's career hasn't been without its fair share of challenges. He will be remembered as a talented player who contributed significantly to the development of Nigerian football.
